Keaten has decided he wants to be mobile. So one second you see him, turn your gaze, and he is somewhere else by the time you look back. You'd think this kid would be crawling, but really it is more of a bear walk. He has both legs stretch out with his butt in the air and moves his hands and feet to get to his next destination. Think of Mowgli from the Jungle Book.
Keaten has just now recently starting to do a normal crawl, and it is a bit annoying to be honest. I had to put up a gate around my computers because he kept going for the cords. I'm going to have to expand this gate (I think) because he is now crawling around them to get to other cords that the gate currently does not cover. Just the other morning, Keaten crawled under my desk to get to the cords, and so I picked him up, told him 'No', smacked his hands, and he just giggled. Then I set him back on the floor in the middle of the living room, so what does he do? He goes around my blind side to get back under my desk and play with the cords! He is so ornery (I can't imagine where he would get that from... Hey! Stop pointing at me!)
If crawling weren't enough of an accomplishment, we are now also pulling our selves up into a standing position much more frequently now. Almost to the point that sitting was "SO yesterday". So now Mommy and Daddy have to be on more of a watch duty to make sure he doesn't fall and slam his head on the media center, a desk, a chair, the wall, etc. It was much easier when he was just crawling and sitting.
Then there is his flirting. Boy, can this little guy flirt, and he has the looks to pull it off too! I've yet to come across another female that isn't charmed by his giggles and smiles that he flaunts as soon as she is within eye sight. If anyone is single and looking to pick up a date, you can borrow him for \$50 an hour and you shouldn't have much trouble getting the attention if you go to the mall or a restaurant. :-P
Of course, anyone else who has had at least 2 children knows about the second-child syndrome (or the fact that the second child will be sick more often than the first). This is definitely the case with Keaten. This is his 3rd cold, and some days it just makes the little guy miserable. Oh well, by the time he is 1 or 2, his immune system should be top notch :)
Along with a cold comes crying, that and when his sister pushes or kicks him. But if you listen hard enough, you will be sure to hear him say "Ma Ma" in his crying fit. It is quite funny as that is exactly how I remember Brianne saying "Ma Ma" first too. I think most kids do this, but they have no problems saying "Da Da."
Love,
Matt, Kami, Brianne, and Keaten
