Well believe it or not, our youngest turned 1 last month! I know! Where oh where did that time go? At his one year checkup he weighed in at 19 pounds 13 ounces and was 28 and a half inches long. Not too shabby for a guy who is taking after his Dad.
Along with turning one, our little man is officially off of formula and on whole milk (thank goodness!). Not to mention he is eating quite a bit of whole food, his new favorite, tortillas and cheese. Second comes animal crackers, and new on the list is Strawberry Pop-tarts and crackers with cheese in between them. Brianne and Keaten can easily down an entire package of crackers. They just love them.
Then again, Keaten is a complete moocher. If you are eating something, you are sharing something (or listening to him whine...). He'll walk/crawl to you, lean up on you and just reach his hand out trying to grab what you are eating. If you don't pay careful attention and lay it down, it's gone. He'll be off with it and it will be in his mouth in a matter of seconds.
Since turning a year, our little guy has been determined to learn new tricks, by mimicking others. He'll mimic anyone over anything. For example, he has learned to undo the velcro on his shoes, climb up on boxes, get into the kitchen when it is blocked off with a gate, push buttons on the washer and dryer, and most recently after seeing his sister climb and sit in the lego box, he had to do that too!
He is also big into books (thanks to everyone who got him a book or two for his birthday). He loves to sit and turn the pages taking in the eye catching images. The fact that they are "manly" books helps too!
Unfortunately, our little guy wasn't the happiest birthday party. However, it was his party and he cried if he wanted to. The only thing that kept our little man collected was a red star balloon that was on a stick. Even Mickey couldn't interest our little guy. He had to have his red balloon in his hand, otherwise, you'd hear about it. It didn't take long for Daddy to show him how ornery he could be with his red balloon. He quietly and sneakily carried Keaten around the room behind unsuspecting victims and had ~~helped~~ Keaten bob them on the head with it.
Immediately following Keaten's party was his Dedication. Our little guy did pretty well considering his typical bedtime is at 5:00 PM and his Dedication was at 6:10 PM. The only time he begin to fuss was when Paster Ken attempted to anoint him with oil. I'm sure his reaction was priceless, probably on the lines of "What do you think you are placing on my head with your finger tip!"
Following the big weekend, we made an Angel Food Cake for his actual birthday and this kid loved it! He was chomping down every bit of angel food cake he could get his hands on. But who wouldn't like angel food cake?
Also this past month, Daddy has been helping Keaten learn new activities to challenge Grandma and Pop Pop. The latest one is holding Keaten by his hands and feet (as if he were hogtied) upside down and then swing him back and forth. They kid absolutely loves it (I see rollercoasters in this boy's future).
Last but not least, our little guy has a jealous streak. If Mommy or Daddy is doing anything with his sister and he isn't invited, you will hear about it! If you are holding her, playing with her, getting her a drink, getting her a snack, helping her in the bathroom, whatever, you better include him. Hopefully within the next few months he'll become a bit more self-dependent and realize he can play on his own or better yet, with his sister! Time will tell.
With that we end another month and look forward to what the next month will bring. But before we sign off, enjoy the photos below.
Love,
Matt, Kami, Brianne, and Keaten
